| CALCIUM CHLORIDE |
Corrosive, hydroscopic (adsorbs
moisture), can damage vegetation. Hazardous material
generates heat - causes expansion contractions of concrete,
damages leather and clothing, slippery when initially put
down. MSDS sheets show that this is a corrosive and
poisonous product. MSDS says keep this product away
from animals & vegetation. |
| SAFE STEP (Koos) |
45% sodium, 45% potassium, 10% corn alcohol
derivative, with a mixture of magnesium chloride. No inhibitor
system, very corrosive to metal. Potassium does
damage concrete and stops functioning at +12-+15°F. No anti-caking
agents, white in color, sold in retail stores. |
| POTASSIUM CHLORIDE |
Stops functioning at +12-+15°F, need to use 3 times
more to be effective. Very corrosive, very slow-acting.
Leaves residue, can kill or burn vegetation, no concrete protection
- no inhibitors. |
| TRIPLE MELT |
No color, contains potassium, sodium, calcium and
magnesium chloride. Dangerous for hands, very
corrosive, hard on cement, no USDA or ASTM approval.
No buffer system, basically a combination of the worst of all
products. |
MAG Total Ice Control
Dead Sea Works |
Heavy concentration of more magnesium chloride than
sodium chloride blends. Corrosive to concrete &
metals, does not contain the patented inhibitors found in
the TEPE blend, and is very unstable in humid areas. |

One dimensional product, safe on concrete but does not
have inhibitor system. Corrosive, can damage

rated, ASTM/EMPA tested. Works below -0°F, Color additive -
